A loving post by Erasmo Carlos ended up deciding an inheritance fight. A Rio de Janeiro court denied a request by educator Fernanda Passos, widow of the Brazilian rock icon who died in 2022, to share in the singer's assets and investments. The ruling, signed on Oct. 1, was revealed by Metrópoles, which on Friday (Oct. 9) showed the post used as its basis.

Fernanda sought half of the assets and income accumulated since 2010, when she says the relationship began — Erasmo was 69. The singer's sons, Leonardo and Gil Esteves, argued the couple only dated until 2016 and that any stable union began only when she moved into his home at the end of that year. The judge relied on a Jan. 6, 2019, post in which Erasmo celebrated the civil wedding held the day before: after '7 years of little kisses and cuddles', he wrote, he had married 'yesterday in a civil ceremony with my beloved Fernanda'.

In the judge's reading, the romance began around 2010 but only took on the features of a stable union about two years before the wedding, when the singer was already over 70. According to the report, Brazilian law imposes mandatory separation of property on relationships started after that age, which removes the widow's right to a share.
