Renata Sorrah declares 'My vote is Lula'; here's which Brazilian stars back Lula and which back Flávio Bolsonaro ahead of the first round

The actress joins a list of about 150 artists supporting the incumbent; the Liberal Party candidate's backers come mostly from sertanejo music.

Three days before the first round of voting on Sunday (Oct. 4), Renata Sorrah took to social media to declare her vote. 'I am a woman, an actress, a mother and a grandmother. And as a citizen, I always make conscious and very important choices when I vote,' wrote the actress, who cited democracy, the rights of women, LGBTQIA+ people and Indigenous peoples, and diversity before concluding: 'My vote is Lula.' The president publicly thanked her.

She joins a large group. According to a tally by Poder360, Lula has nearly 150 names among actors, singers, writers and filmmakers, including Ivete Sangalo, Xamã, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.

On Flávio Bolsonaro's (PL) side, the list of declared supporters in the arts is shorter and concentrated in sertanejo, Brazil's country music. Singer Amado Batista hosted the senator at his ranch and recorded a video of support, and former MTV VJ Penélope Nova also declared her vote. Leonardo and Zezé di Camargo, according to Poder360, have signaled a preference for the candidate.

There have also been gestures read as political without a formal endorsement. Neymar was seen in August autographing a Flávio campaign shirt, and Ana Castela was photographed making the number 22 alongside congressman Nikolas Ferreira at the Barretos rodeo festival — but, according to Estado de Minas, the singer never officially declared support. In the polls, the two candidates appear in a close race despite the gap in celebrity backing.
