'He's also French': Hailey Bieber 'changes' Justin's nationality on French TV and splits the internet

Hailey Bieber left fans confused after saying on French show 'Quotidien' that Justin Bieber is French. Pressed on it, she explained: 'He's from Canada but he's also French. His family is French.' She was in the country promoting Rhode's launch at Sephora France.

Justin was born in Ontario and raised in Stratford, Canada. His mother, Pattie Mallette, has French-Canadian roots, and the singer attended French immersion schools. He speaks some French but has never claimed fluency or identified as French; in 2011 he told Rolling Stone that Canada was 'the best country in the world'.

Online, the remark split opinions. One Reddit user summed up the skeptics: 'He may have some French ancestry but, culturally? No.' Others defended Hailey, pointing to the French-Canadian heritage of the singer's family.
