The project was first announced in May at the company's Upfront event and is one of up to four franchise spinoffs in development, the only one with a series order so far.
Mike Daniels, of 'Sons of Anarchy', and Wolfe Coleman, of '9-1-1: Lone Star', are writing the pilot and will serve as co-showrunners. Vin Diesel executive produces alongside Neal H. Moritz and longtime franchise writer Chris Morgan, among others. No cast has been announced, there is no confirmation Diesel will appear on screen, and the plot remains under wraps.
The 2028 window lines up with the saga's big-screen calendar: the next film, 'Fast Forever', is set for March 17, 2028. Over 25 years, the franchise has grossed more than $7 billion worldwide.
