Twitch streamer beats Magnus Carlsen at chess and celebrates by taking his pants off
Bulgaria's Witty Alien took down the world's best chess player in a blitz game and went viral with his celebration.
Foto: DexertoBulgarian streamer Volen Dyulgerov, known on Twitch as Witty Alien, pulled off one of online chess's most talked-about upsets: he beat Norway's Magnus Carlsen, a five-time world champion, during the Chess Club Showdown on September 30. Playing Black in a five-minute blitz game with no increment, the candidate master saw Carlsen resign after move 21.
The celebration was as unusual as the result: Dyulgerov took his pants off on camera, a moment that quickly spread online. On Reddit, one user joked: "It's a good thing he didn't overreact."
The event drew 4,400 participants from nine esports clubs. Team Liquid, led by Carlsen, reached the final but lost to Argentina's 9z Globant 53.5-45.5. The loss joins a list of viral moments from players who have beaten the Norwegian, such as Alexandra Botez's excited reaction.
