Reviews for Star Wars: Galactic Racer landed on Friday (Oct. 2), and critics are sold. The racer holds an 88 average on Metacritic across 50 reviews and an 87 on OpenCritic, where 97% of critics recommend it. That makes it the fifth best-reviewed Star Wars game ever and the franchise's top-rated release in more than two decades, ahead of every Battlefront.

Eurogamer gave it 5 out of 5, GameSpot, Shacknews and Push Square went with 9/10, and IGN landed at 8. Kotaku called it one of its favorite Star Wars games in years, praising the sense of speed, movie-accurate sound and a roguelike campaign with vehicle progression. The most common complaints target repetitive on-foot sections and how little podracing appears in the main campaign.

Developed by Fuse Games, Galactic Racer launches October 6 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Only titles like 2003's Knights of the Old Republic (94) and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II rank above it among the saga's best-reviewed games.
