Clint 'Maven' Evans, who has called the scene's biggest finals since the Call of Duty World League era, announced on X that he is leaving the Call of Duty League (CDL) 'for the foreseeable future' — and explained why: he is dating Maurisa, the ex-wife of Joe 'MerK' DeLuca, his booth partner for years.
In his statement, Maven said he was very close to Joe and his family and that Maurisa was 'one of my best friends.' He said the two stayed friends after the divorce and that, over time, the friendship turned romantic. 'I understand how unconventional/taboo it is. It's truly not something I ever foresaw happening,' he wrote.
The caster did not clarify whether the decision was his or the league's, but said he hopes to work on the CDL again one day and asked fans to keep supporting Joe, the league and its talent. As of Kotaku's report, MerK had not commented publicly; his accounts have drawn both supportive messages and jokes.
