Now it's Stray Kids: the group joins BTS in sitting out the Grammys' new Asian pop category

Even with all eight members as Academy voters, the JYP group did not submit songs for the 2027 awards.

The boycott of the Grammys' new Asian pop category has gained another heavyweight. Stray Kids did not submit songs for Best Asian Pop Music Performance, created for the 69th Grammy Awards in February 2027, following BTS, which declined to submit in July.

The decision stands out because all eight members of the JYP Entertainment group were appointed Recording Academy voting members this year. In August, the members told a press conference they had never made awards or records their goal. BTS, for its part, said it hoped music would be heard 'beyond region or language'.

The category covers songs with significant use of Asian languages and excludes English-only tracks. The Academy consulted Asian industry figures, including HYBE, on Oct. 1 but chose to keep it. Meanwhile, the EP 'This & That' debuted atop the Billboard 200, Stray Kids' ninth No. 1 on the chart.
