Cleaning, laundry and ironing: JYP accused of misogyny after giving TWICE, ITZY and NiziU the same housework theme
The three girl groups' 2027 Season's Greetings dropped within a week, all built around household chores, and the internet was not having it.
Foto: JYP Entertainment/ReproduçãoJYP Entertainment has come under a wave of online criticism after revealing the 2027 Season's Greetings concepts — the annual calendar-and-photo kits groups release for fans — for three of its girl groups. In just over a week, all of them arrived with the same theme: housework. NiziU opened the run on Sept. 24 with 'Wash It All Away,' which includes ironing; ITZY followed on the 25th with 'Bubble Rush,' set in a laundry; and TWICE completed the trio on Oct. 1 with 'Spotless,' about cleaning.
Many fans read the coincidence as a pattern — and an uncomfortable one. 'Making THREE of your girl groups release seasons greetings with a laundry/cleaning/housework concept is such a bizarre decision,' one user wrote, according to Koreaboo. Others even complained about the production, with bare, undecorated sets, and treated the package as a way of reducing the artists to housewife stereotypes.
The most-shared line sums up the mood: 'The next time ur complaining about misogyny surrounding a kpop company… it really is THAT deep.' As of publication, JYP had not commented on the criticism.
