Gilberto Gil hints at farewell at Rock in Rio and earns praise from Elton John

Gilberto Gil performed on Rock in Rio's Palco Mundo on September 7, just before Elton John. At 84, the singer revisited career highlights in a retrospective set.

On stage, Gil recalled playing the festival's first edition in 1985 and said this might be his final appearance there, drawing groans from the crowd. He wrapped his 'Tempo Rei' tour, billed as his last major run of concerts, in March, but hasn't fully ruled out future invitations.

After the shows, Gil and Elton John met backstage. In a video Gil shared, the British star called him 'a legend and a brilliant man'; Gil had watched Elton's set from the crowd alongside Flora Gil.
