Elton John says goodbye to Brazil at Rock in Rio: “a beautiful country, wonderful people”

At 79, he played his first show in the country in nine years and said he has no plans to tour again.

Elton John closed the Palco Mundo on Monday, September 7, with a 24-song set critics called historic. It was his first show in Brazil in nine years.

The next day he thanked fans online, calling the night incredible. He said he regretted leaving South America out of the farewell tour that ended in 2023 and framed the show as settling that debt with Brazilian fans.

He confirmed he has no plans for new tours or solo shows due to health issues. Backstage, he met Gilberto Gil, who also played the festival.
