The joke referenced Macklemore's removal from Sheeran's tour after the rapper made pro-Palestine statements. Sheeran initially said the decision wasn't his, then later apologized and said he opposed what he called Israel's 'unjustifiable' and 'disproportionate' response to October 7.
The audience's enthusiastic reaction was widely read as sympathy for the rapper. Sheeran had not responded to the jab at the time of publication.
