Bill Nighy as Holly Hunter's estranged father and a March 2027 premiere: 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' previews its final season at Comic Con, on the day William Shatner, 95, celebrates the franchise's 60th anniversary
Paramount+ revealed the date, new guest stars and a teaser for the second and final season, but the clip shown in New York was not released online.
Foto: Paramount+/DivulgaçãoThe second season of 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy', which will also be the show's last, premieres in March 2027 on Paramount+, with an exact date still to be set. The announcement came on Saturday (Oct. 10) at the 'Star Trek' universe panel at New York Comic Con, where showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau presented a new teaser and the first images from the upcoming episodes.
The casting highlight is Bill Nighy, who will play Nyk Ake, the estranged father of Captain Nahla Ake, Holly Hunter's character. Rosemarie DeWitt joins as Laytha Sadal, First Lady of Betazed and mother of cadet Tarima (Zoe Steiner), and Ruaridh Aldington plays Keats, a young alien the USS Athena crew meets. Robert Picardo returns as The Doctor, while Paul Giamatti, the villain Nus Braka, does not. The new batch has ten episodes and follows the cadets' second year, with rivalries, diplomatic negotiations, a schoolwide tournament and the arrival of a mysterious cadet.
Fans following the stream were frustrated: the teaser was not made available online, and the livestream lost audio for nearly three minutes right during the new-season footage. The day also held a landmark moment on the Empire Stage: William Shatner, the original Captain Kirk, sat down with Ben Stiller, a self-declared fan of the show, to honor 'Star Trek' turning 60.
