'Faro, I think you'd better leave': from boyband Dominó to 16 years at Record, the story of the host who returned to Globo and lost his cool on a R$ 1 million gold reality show
Days before turning 53, Rodrigo Faro said he was pulled off the set of 'Herança em Jogo' because he couldn't hide his outrage at the contestants.

In an interview with Chico Barney on Canal UOL, he said the manipulation among the 13 contestants, who compete for up to R$ 1 million in gold bars, left him in disbelief: 'It's not possible they're doing this. It's not possible'. His indignation showed on his face, and the crew stepped in. 'And then the director came up to me and said: Faro, I think you'd better leave', he recalled.
The show, a strategy game in which lying and manipulating are part of the rules, premiered on Sept. 25 on Globoplay, also airing on Multishow, and features Susana Vieira. Ahead of the launch, Faro summed up the moment to Portal LeoDias: 'I'm very happy with this new phase of my career'. Asked about getting his own show at the network, he dodged: 'I don't know. I'll leave it in God's hands'.
The return closes a circle that began early. Born in São Paulo on Oct. 20, 1973, Rodrigo Alcazar Faro debuted at age 9 in a milk commercial, hosted the children's show 'ZYB Bom' on Band and, at 19, joined the boyband Dominó. With a radio and TV degree from USP, he became a telenovela heartthrob, appearing in 'O Cravo e a Rosa' (2000), 'Chocolate com Pimenta' (2003), 'Cabocla' (2004) and 'América' (2005), among others.
In 2008 he swapped acting for hosting when he moved to Record to front 'Ídolos'. There he took over 'O Melhor do Brasil', which became 'Hora do Faro' in 2014 and stayed on air until 2024, cementing segments such as 'Dança Gatinho'. Off screen, he has been married since 2003 to Vera Viel, his partner since 1997, and is the father of Clara, Maria and Helena.
