'I almost choked': Laurentino washes Mirtes' underwear in 'Quem Ama Cuida', and fans instantly spot MC Carol's anthem 'Meu Namorado É o Maior Otário'

Globo's prime-time telenovela decided to have fun with its own casting. In a scene from Wednesday's (7) episode of 'Quem Ama Cuida', Laurentino, a restaurant owner played by Alan Rocha, is seen hand-washing a pair of panties belonging to Mirtes, the character played by MC Carol. The nod was to 'Meu Namorado É o Maior Otário' ('My Boyfriend Is the Biggest Sucker'), a funk track the singer released in 2013 whose most famous verse jokes about a boyfriend who washes her underwear.

Fans got the joke immediately, and the scene — which spread during the day among viewers who watched the episode early on Globoplay — became a topic on X. 'Help, they made Laurentino wash Mirtes' panties as a tribute to MC Carol's legendary song. Enough!', one user wrote. 'I just saw this scene on Globoplay and almost choked catching the reference', said another. Someone even pictured real life: 'MC Carol getting home and her husband washing panties. Iconic.'

Written by Walcyr Carrasco and Claudia Souto, the story marks MC Carol's telenovela debut. She plays Mirtes, who looked after Camilo (Antonio Caramelo) while Nancy (Jeniffer Nascimento) was in prison. According to O Tempo, the funk singer approached Globo last year, when she was out of money and gigs, took part in an acting workshop and later got the invitation. She had previously acted in the film 'No Coração do Mundo' (2019) and in Disney+'s series 'Impuros'.
