In 2015 the actress paid $5.1 million to composer Adam Guettel, grandson of Richard Rodgers, for a roughly 3,000-square-foot, four-bedroom co-op in the Osborne, an 1880s building on 57th Street across from Carnegie Hall. In the 1950s, Leonard Bernstein lived there while writing the score for 'West Side Story'; pianist Bobby Short was also a former tenant.
The apartment has 14-foot ceilings, pocket doors, oak floors, plaster crown moldings, five wood-burning fireplaces and a bay window with Tiffany Studios leaded glass. Chastain and her husband, fashion executive Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, renovated it with Carrier and Company, adding bespoke Ralph Lauren fabrics as wallcoverings. The primary suite features a copper soaking tub, and the modern kitchen has a rolling library ladder. The roughly 140-year-old building offers a 24/7 doorman and a roof terrace.
In May 2024 the home was listed at $7.45 million, per The Wall Street Journal as cited by Inman — the broker said the family 'needs more space.' According to the New York Post, the listing was later pulled and returned with a cut to $6.49 million. Space isn't an issue for the actress: in 2019 she bought an Upper West Side brownstone for $8.875 million.
