Two days after the teaser, Universal and Blumhouse released the first full trailer for 'The Exorcist: Martyrs' on Friday (Oct. 9), Mike Flanagan's take on the franchise created by William Peter Blatty. The 2-minute, 24-second video premiered on Blumhouse's stage at New York Comic Con, played before 'Other Mommy' screenings in theaters and went online alongside the official poster. The film opens March 12, 2027.

Scarlett Johansson plays Julie Miller, a New York detective who, 13 years ago, ended the crimes of the satanic killer known as Father Sunday. Now a mother to Max (Jacobi Jupe), she is pulled back into the darkness when a new killer writes her name in an altar boy's blood in a church crypt. To investigate, she teams with Father William (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a former prison chaplain who heard Sunday's final confession, and rookie detective Gina Restrepo (Sasha Calle). According to the synopsis, the trio uncovers a thread linking a line of serial killers, from H.H. Holmes to the Zodiac, to an evil that reaches beyond the mortal world.

The cast also includes Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, John Leguizamo, Carla Gugino and Flanagan regulars such as Rahul Kohli, Samantha Sloyan and Kate Siegel. It is Flanagan's first entry in the saga — which returned to theaters with David Gordon Green's 'The Exorcist: Believer' in 2023, part of a trilogy plan abandoned after the director left the project, as TheWrap recalled. The trailer lands the same week Flanagan's 'Carrie' premiered on Prime Video.
