Mike Flanagan's 'Carrie' arrives at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 'Avatar: Seven Havens' debuts: what's coming to TV and streaming this week
The Stephen King reimagining premieres on Prime Video on Wednesday (Oct. 7), the same week 'Abbott Elementary', 'NCIS' and season 28 of 'Law & Order: SVU' return.

Summer H. Howell plays the title role, Samantha Sloyan is the zealous mother Margaret White, and the cast also features Matthew Lillard as the principal and Amber Midthunder as the gym teacher. The series moves the story to present-day America, with social media harassment and political fights inside schools.
First reviews put it at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. CNET called Howell's performance 'transcendent', and TIME said this is the first version to fully escape the shadow of Brian De Palma's 1976 film — while noting too many framing devices and preachy social monologues.
The rest of the week brings back 'Marshals' (season 2) and 'Tracker' (season 4) this Sunday on CBS, 'NCIS' (season 24) on Tuesday, 'Abbott Elementary' (season 6) and the 'Chicago' block on Wednesday, and 'Law & Order: SVU' (season 28) plus vampire comedy 'Eternally Yours' on Thursday. On Friday (Oct. 9), Paramount+ launches 'Avatar: Seven Havens', the new spinoff of 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'. Dates and times are for the US.
