Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said the company will grow in gaming without major acquisitions, focusing on titles tied to its own shows and films.

Netflix has redrawn its video game plans. At a Bloomberg event, co-CEO Ted Sarandos said that 'in a kind of post-console world, there's going to be all kinds of opportunities for gaming on the television,' and that cloud play, with phones acting as remotes, makes more sense for the company than building big games.

According to Sarandos, the strategy now is organic growth, without buying major publishers. The focus will be lower-cost licensed games, extensions of the brands already succeeding in its catalog and options for subscribers who would rather play than watch.

The remarks mark a shift from Netflix's early gaming ambitions, when the company bought independent studios such as Night School, maker of 'Oxenfree', and later shut them down without major releases.
