Activision wants to take away cheaters' oldest weapon in Call of Duty. The company announced 'Server Culling' on the franchise's official social channels, a new layer of its RICOCHET anti-cheat system debuting in Modern Warfare 4. The promise is to make wallhacks, programs that reveal enemies through walls, 'far less effective.'

The logic is simple. In traditional multiplayer games, the server sends every player's console or PC the position of all opponents, even those out of sight, and that is exactly the data cheats read. With the new feature, a visibility system custom-built into each map withholds the positions of hidden opponents, so the data never reaches the cheater's machine.

According to Activision, the technology will cover all multiplayer launch maps, DMZ and Combat Outpost, and will expand to every mode starting in Season 1. The announcement comes as the publisher steps up its war on cheating, including legal action against cheat developers. It is not yet clear whether the feature will also come to Warzone.
