'A conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar': Nintendo of America president washes her hands of GTA 6 on Switch 2

Switch 2 owners dreaming of playing GTA 6 on the console will need patience. In an interview with Variety, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard was asked about the chances of the year's most anticipated game coming to Nintendo's hybrid and passed the ball: 'That's going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.'

The answer isn't a 'no', but it is far from encouraging. As Kotaku pointed out, Switch 2 is the only current-generation console that won't get GTA 6 at launch, expected in November. History doesn't help either: neither GTA 5 nor Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on Switch 2. On Nintendo's platform, Rockstar is represented only by GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition and the original Red Dead Redemption, which got a native Switch 2 release at the end of 2025.

Some still hold out hope. Virtuos, the studio that brought L.A. Noire to Switch, has said it would like to adapt GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for Nintendo hardware. For Nintendo Life, however, the more realistic reading is that GTA 6 is unlikely to show up on Switch 2, at least for now.
