Madonna wins 7 VMAs in 2026, the biggest night of her career at the show
Artist of the Year, Best Album and five more trophies: she beat the record set by “Ray of Light” in 1998.

Madonna left the 2026 VMAs with seven trophies: Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration (with Sabrina Carpenter, for “Bring Your Love”), Best Dance, Best Cinematography, Best Choreography, Best Long Form Video and Best Album for “Confessions II”.
It is her best night in the show’s history: the previous record was six wins for “Ray of Light” in 1998. She hadn’t won a VMA since 1999 and came in with 11 nominations, which grew to 13 when more categories were announced.
She opened the show with Sabrina Carpenter and Charli xcx, her first VMAs performance in 23 years. Accepting Best Dance, she said “we’re all equal on the dance floor”. Accepting Best Collaboration, she recounted DM’ing Carpenter after five days without hearing back from her team — a story some US outlets framed as awkward for her collaborator.
