Devil masks, 15,000 fans and only hometown artists: the story of the night Cazzu returned to Jujuy for her first stadium show

Born in Fraile Pintado, the former 'jefa' of trap swapped Buenos Aires for her home province for the biggest show of her life, powered by the folk-rooted 'Latinaje'.

Cazzu could have picked Buenos Aires for her stadium debut, but she went home. On Saturday night (Oct. 3), the 32-year-old singer, born in Fraile Pintado, drew more than 15,000 people to the 23 de Agosto Stadium in San Salvador de Jujuy, according to local outlet TodoJujuy. 'I've wanted to come back to Jujuy for so long,' she told the crowd, thanking fans who traveled from other provinces and abroad. One mother even postponed her daughter's quinceañera so they wouldn't miss it.

The homecoming was planned down to the details. Before the show, Cazzu promised that 'no one from outside' would be on stage: the opening sets went to local artists Mariana Carrizo, Micaela Chauque and Wara Calpanchay. She also asked fans for a 'diabla jujeña' dress code inspired by northern Argentina's carnival, with masks, sparkles, fringe, handmade embroidery and papel picado — 'so no one finds out what a she-devil does on a carnival night.'

The stadium crowns the artistic turn of 'Latinaje', the former trap queen's fourth album, which blends cumbia, Andean music, coplas, quenas and sikus. 'I am more where I come from than who I am,' she told Infobae, adding that she had to learn to sing 'Inti', a lullaby dedicated to her daughter, without breaking down. The tour continues to Costa Rica, Guatemala and Montevideo before reaching Spain, with Madrid and Barcelona, in November.
