BTS becomes first pop group to pass $500 million in ticket sales as Bogotá names all seven 'honorary guests'
According to Billboard Boxscore data, the 'Arirang' tour puts BTS in a club previously made up only of rock bands, and Colombia's capital is turning purple for this week's shows.
Foto: The Korea TimesBTS has joined a very exclusive club: with its 'Arirang' world tour, which kicked off in South Korea in April, the group became the first pop act to surpass $500 million in cumulative ticket sales, according to Billboard Boxscore. Only six other groups had reached that mark, and all of them were rock bands.
August was the turning point: 12 shows, around 800,000 fans and $171.7 million grossed, the second-highest monthly total in Boxscore history. With roughly 40 dates still to go, Billboard projects the tour could reach $1 billion.
The next stop is the first in Latin America: Bogotá, on October 2 and 3 at El Campín stadium, with more than 53,000 people per night. Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán declared RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook 'honorary guests' of the city, Torre Colpatria was lit up in purple, ARMY's color, and TransMilenio will run eight special routes after the shows.
