Her own stadium, a 30-hectare city and a €20,000-a-night penthouse: behind the scenes of Shakira's Madrid residency
The numbers behind the Colombian star's 12 shows in Spain, which run through October 11 and are expected to draw around 600,000 people.
Foto: Europa Press via Qué!Shakira didn't just book a run of shows in Madrid: she built a small city. The 12-night residency, which began on September 18 and runs through October 11, takes place at 'Estadio Shakira', a temporary venue set up inside the Iberdrola Music grounds in the Villaverde district to hold more than 50,000 people a night and around 600,000 in total.
The structure went up in about a month, built by the same architecture team behind Adele's 2024 residency in Germany. Around the stage sits Macondo Park, a 30-hectare 'ephemeral city' open from noon to midnight on show days, with eight themed pavilions for music, literature, fashion, art, dance and food, plus a Barranquilla-style carnival to close each night.
Offstage, the luxury is just as striking. According to Infobae, the singer is staying in the penthouse of The Madrid EDITION hotel in the city center: a 460-square-meter duplex, including a 298-square-meter terrace with an infinity pool, with nightly rates estimated at €20,000 to €25,000, the highest in Madrid, and views of the Royal Palace.
The guests are part of the show: Laura Pausini and Alejandro Sanz have already joined her onstage, and the mystery over who will turn up on the remaining dates has become the main draw. One of the nights, October 3, will be streamed live worldwide.
