'It makes me want to throw it all away': Anitta says she won't record a video asking for votes for Lula, and fans push back

The singer says a video would only give 'material' to opponents and criticizes how the left uses social media; she later follows Renan Santos.

Anitta responded on Wednesday (Oct. 7) to pressure from followers demanding a video supporting Lula (Workers' Party) in the runoff of Brazil's presidential election. The singer said recording that kind of content now would be pointless: it would only reach people who already agree with her and would hand ammunition to the other side. 'It actually makes things worse, because it gives people on the other side material to use my face,' she wrote.

Visibly irritated, she said the demands make her 'want to throw it all away' and took aim at the left itself: 'There's a reason things are the way they are, precisely because the left doesn't know how to play the social media game.' Anitta added that she'd rather save her energy for the final stretch: 'Where's the stamina for the most important days, which are four, five days before the vote?' This year she had largely avoided endorsing a candidate, encouraging fans to do their own research.

The comments split her fan base. Fan page Anitta Pressa, with 83,000 followers on X, disagreed and argued a video would help more than hurt. Hours later, users noticed the singer had started following Renan Santos, of the MBL movement, who ran for president in the first round, sparking a fresh wave of comments. Anitta did not explain the new follow.
