She said she had bought tickets to travel with their son, Malone, to the United States, where she has family, on Sunday (11). 'I'm just standing here, unable to pack, kind of paralyzed', she admitted.
Mila said she expects the airport and the flight to be hard, since aviation was her husband's world, but that she needs breathing room away from home, where Lito's presence is everywhere. 'I need to get away from here for a bit', she said. She also revealed she is considering creating an institute to support people in similar situations with fewer resources: 'I want to try to make my pain something useful for people'.
Lito died on October 1 from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare degenerative condition. He was the first person in the world to receive the experimental drug ALN-6457, which is still at a pre-clinical stage with no formal human trials. Mila said she intends to share what the experience with the drug was like once she is more emotionally stable.
