'She wasn't ABEL to sing': inside the 'SING!' meme where The Weeknd begs for a high note and Jennie answers with a 'thank you'

Jennie's guest spot at The Weeknd's show at Goyang Stadium in South Korea on Thursday (Oct. 8) got a second act online. In the closing stretch of 'One of the Girls', the song from 'The Idol' that features the BLACKPINK star, Abel Tesfaye turns to her and shouts 'SING!' — and instead of belting, Jennie thanks him for having her and ends the song, leaving him in an awkward pause.

The clip spread across X on Friday (Oct. 9) and became an instant meme. The most-shared pun plays on the singer's name: 'I guess she wasn't ABEL to sing.' Others wrote that 'he thought she would make a high note like Ariana,' that 'it could've been worse, she could've actually tried to sing,' and that it was 'two completely different energy levels on one track.'

Some defended the idol's deadpan cool: 'Jennie said thank you like she was handed a parking ticket. She's so unbothered it's iconic,' one fan wrote. The After Hours Til Dawn tour, which began in July 2022, wraps in Malaysia on November 5.
